Eighteen of the 70 events in our Maine directory carry a food-festival category. They are not evenly spread. The seafood festivals cluster on the coast between late June and early September, the blueberry festivals all land in August, and the two shoulder-season entries sit alone in late September and late November.
This roundup is organized by what you actually eat rather than by region, because that is how people plan these trips. Every date below comes straight from our listings.
Seafood: oysters, clams, lobster, salmon
The seafood run opens early. The Maine Oyster Festival takes June 27 to 28 in Freeport, Cumberland County, and is the shortest and most single-minded of the group: food and live music, nothing else listed.
Three weeks later, the Yarmouth Clam Festival runs July 17 to 19. Our records date it to 1965 and put attendance at 85,000, which is the only attendance figure in the entire dataset. It is also one of only two events listed with free admission, and it carries crafts, kids' activities, live music and a parade alongside the food, which is why it functions as a general town festival rather than a pure eating event.
The Maine Lobster Festival is the largest seafood entry by run length, five days in Rockland from July 29 to August 2. It is the other free-admission event, and the only food festival in our data that lists fireworks, a parade, live music and kids' activities together. Rockland is a genuine cluster in 2026, which is covered in the Midcoast guide.
The season closes Downeast with the Eastport Salmon and Seafood Festival, September 4 to 6 in Washington County, listed with crafts, food and live music. Eastport also hosts a pirate festival the following weekend, so a two-weekend Downeast trip is genuinely on the table.
Three blueberry festivals, and two of them share a weekend
Maine's wild blueberry harvest gives this calendar three separate festivals, all in August, and two of them are on identical dates.
The Wilton Blueberry Festival runs August 7 to 8 in Franklin County, in Maine's Lakes and Mountains, and our records date it to 1982. The Gray Wild Blueberry Festival runs the same August 7 to 8 in Cumberland County, closer to Portland. Both list crafts, food and kids' activities. Wilton adds a parade; Gray adds live music. They are roughly an hour and a half apart, so pick one.
A week later, the Machias Wild Blueberry Festival takes August 14 to 16 in Washington County, deep Downeast and closest to the actual barrens. Our records date it to 1976 and list competitions along with crafts, food and live music.
The sweet and the specifically Maine
The Maine Whoopie Pie Festival is a single Saturday, June 13, in Dover-Foxcroft, listed with crafts, food and kids' activities. It is the earliest food festival on the 2026 calendar and one of the shortest.
The Moxie Festival runs July 10 to 12 in Lisbon Falls, Androscoggin County, tagged as food, cultural and family, with a parade and live music. It is the one event in this list built around a soft drink rather than a crop or a catch, and it is the clearest example of a Maine festival that will not read as obvious to an out-of-state visitor.
Cultural tables: Greek, Franco-American, Acadian
Three festivals in this group are cultural first and culinary second, and they are among the strongest food stops in the dataset for that reason.
The Portland Greek Food Festival fills June 25 to 27 with food and live music. La Kermesse Franco-Americaine Festival runs June 18 to 21 in Biddeford and is the only cultural food festival in our records that also lists carnival rides, along with a parade, live music and kids' activities. The Acadian Festival takes August 13 to 16 in Madawaska, at the top of Aroostook County, with food, live music, a parade and kids' activities.
Madawaska and Biddeford are about as far apart as two Maine towns get, which is a fair reflection of how Franco-American and Acadian communities actually sit in the state.
Chili, apples and the late-season harvest
Wells Chili-Fest is one day, August 22, in York County, and it is one of the few food festivals in our data that explicitly lists competitions alongside food and live music.
The Cornish Apple Festival is also a single day, September 26, in York County, with crafts, food, kids' activities and a parade. It is the last food festival before the calendar thins out.
Then a long gap, and the Maine Harvest Festival closes the year in Bangor on November 21 to 22. It is tagged agricultural, craft and food-festival, and its feature list is just crafts and food. This is an indoor-season event, and it is the only food festival in our records after September.
Agricultural fairs that double as food festivals
Three entries carry both an agricultural and a food-festival tag, which makes them useful if you want the fair experience and the eating in one stop. Union Fair runs August 5 to 9 in Knox County with animals, competitions, rides and live music, and our records date it to 1869. The Pittsfield Community Festival runs July 23 to 25 in Somerset County with competitions, food, kids' activities and a parade.
The Common Ground Country Fair in Unity, September 25 to 27, is the broadest single listing in the dataset: agricultural, craft, food-festival and family, with animals, competitions, crafts, food, kids' activities and live music all listed. Our records date it to 1977. If you can only make one food-adjacent fair, this is the one with the most tagged on the plate.
Building a food weekend
Two practical patterns come out of the dates. The Rockland and Camden corridor gives you the lobster festival at the end of July and a boat show the following week, so a Knox County stay covers more than one event. And the first weekend of September in Washington County pairs the Eastport seafood festival with the Washington County Fair, which ends August 30, if you arrive early.
The single-day events are the ones to verify hardest: the whoopie pie festival, Wells Chili-Fest and the Cornish Apple Festival are all one-day listings, and a one-day shift kills a weekend plan in a way a five-day festival cannot.
