Midcoast and Islands carries 13 events in our Maine directory, the largest count of the state's eight regions. It also has the longest season by a wide margin: it opens on February 6 and closes on October 12, while most regions do not start until June.
The region spans four counties, and they are not evenly loaded. Knox County alone holds seven of the 13. Sagadahoc, Waldo and Lincoln hold two each. If you are picking a base for a multi-event trip, that concentration is the whole story.
Knox County holds seven of the thirteen
Knox County's seven are split between two towns and one fair. Rockland has three, Camden has three, and Union has the region's oldest-dated agricultural fair.
That density is unusual in this dataset. No other county in Maine carries seven listings, and the practical consequence is that a Rockland or Camden stay can cover more than one event in a single visit if you time it, or across two weekends if you cannot.
Rockland's three-event summer
Rockland runs three events between mid-July and early August. The North Atlantic Blues Festival takes July 11 to 12, and it is one of only four listings in the whole dataset tagged as music and nothing else. Its feature list is exactly two items: food and live music. It is the purest music event on the Midcoast calendar.
The Maine Lobster Festival follows July 29 to August 2, five days, and it is one of only two events in the entire Maine directory listed with free admission. It carries fireworks, food, kids' activities, live music and a parade, which makes it the broadest single festival in the region.
Then the Maine Boat and Home Show on August 7 to 9, tagged cultural and artisan, with crafts and food. Three events, four weeks, one town. Nothing else on this coast concentrates like that.
Camden: February, September, September
Camden's three events avoid the summer entirely, which is genuinely useful if you want the Midcoast without July traffic.
The U.S. National Toboggan Championships open Maine's whole 2026 calendar on February 6 to 8, listed with competitions and food. It is the earliest date anywhere in this directory.
The Camden Windjammer Festival takes two days, September 4 to 5, with food, kids' activities and live music. The Camden International Film Festival follows September 17 to 20, tagged cultural. Both sit after Labor Day, and together with the toboggan championships they give Camden a shoulder-season and off-season profile that the rest of the region does not have.
Two windjammer festivals, three months apart
The region carries two separate windjammer events, and visitors regularly conflate them. They are different towns, different counties and different months.
Boothbay Harbor Windjammer Days runs June 21 to 27 in Lincoln County, six days, with fireworks, food, kids' activities, live music and a parade. It is one of only five events in the whole Maine dataset that lists fireworks.
The Camden Windjammer Festival is September 4 to 5 in Knox County, two days, no fireworks and no parade in its listing. If someone tells you they are going to "the windjammer festival," ask which one.
The two agricultural fairs: Union and Topsham
Union Fair runs August 5 to 9 in Knox County. Our records date it to 1869, and it is tagged agricultural, food-festival and family with animals, competitions, food, live music and rides. That combination of a midway plus live music appears on only three agricultural fairs in the whole state, so Union punches above its size.
Topsham Fair takes six days, August 11 to 16, in Sagadahoc County, with animals, competitions, food and rides. The two run back to back, which means a two-week window in August covers both plus the Rockland boat show.
Waldo County's two: Unity and Belfast
The Common Ground Country Fair in Unity, September 25 to 27, is the most broadly tagged listing in the entire Maine dataset: agricultural, craft, food-festival and family, with animals, competitions, crafts, food, kids' activities and live music. Our records date it to 1977. If you only have one Midcoast weekend in the fall and you want the fullest single event, this is it.
The Maine Celtic Celebration in Belfast runs July 17 to 19, tagged cultural, music and family, with competitions, food, kids' activities and live music. It lands on the busiest weekend of the entire Maine calendar, competing with four events in other regions, so book early.
Lincoln County bookends
Lincoln County's two listings sit at opposite ends of the season. Boothbay Harbor Windjammer Days opens it in late June. Damariscotta Pumpkinfest and Regatta closes it October 9 to 12, tagged seasonal, family and artisan, with competitions, food, kids' activities and a parade.
Pumpkinfest is the last Midcoast event of 2026 and one of only three October listings in the whole state. After that, the region goes quiet until February.
Where the fireworks and parades are
Two Midcoast events list fireworks: Boothbay Harbor Windjammer Days in June and the Maine Lobster Festival at the end of July. Bath Heritage Days in Sagadahoc County, July 2 to 5, is the third, with fireworks, food, kids' activities, live music and a parade, and it is the region's Independence Day weekend anchor.
Four Midcoast events list a parade: Bath Heritage Days, Windjammer Days, the Maine Lobster Festival and Damariscotta Pumpkinfest. If a parade is the deciding factor, those are the four, and they are spaced far enough apart that you could reasonably hit all of them across a single season.
