Woodsmen's field day

Timber sports competition: sawing, chopping, axe throwing and log rolling.

A woodsmen's field day is a set of competitive events drawn from logging work: crosscut and bucksaw sawing, axe throwing, chopping, pole climbing, log rolling and chainsaw events. Some Maine fairs run one as a single day within a larger schedule, and some events are built entirely around it. It is the forestry equivalent of a livestock show, and in Maine it reflects a working industry rather than a nostalgia act.

Also known as: woodsman's day, logging competition, lumberjack show.
